When you hear the word ‘hypnosis’, you typically think of a swinging watch dangling from a doctors hand or a comedian getting people to act like chickens. But there are many types of hypnosis, in fact, there is one you can use to influence people without them even knowing it. It’s referred to as conversational hypnosis and can be used to convince friends, family and even strangers to do almost anything!

This type of hypnosis has been in use for quite some time, you may have even had it happen to you and were unaware because it is so subtle. This technique does not involve a swinging pocket watch or any overt gestures, the techniques are those used during a normal conversation which allow you to put people into a hypnotized state without them even realizing it!

Conversational hypnosis isn’t magic or trickery, It simply uses conversational techniques to magnify the art of persuasion and lower the defenses of your subjects conscious or critical mind and get right into the subconscious which will be more open to your suggestions. It’s actually something we do at some level each day – when you try to persuade your spouse to do something or ask someone for a favor. The difference is that if you knew the techniques of conversational hypnosis you would get them to agree a lot more often!

Conversational or covert hypnosis can be used to persuade crowds or in one on one conversations. It employs the use of vocal timing, language patterns and voice intonations in order to influence others. It can be used in most situations and learned by most anyone. People that use it are able to engross their subjects in what they have to say, hypnotizing them into empathy and respect and changing their minds easily and readily into agreement.

One of the most interesting uses of conversational hypnosis was by a doctor who used it on his patients due to it’s healing power. This doctor, Milton Erikson, used it in conversation because hypnosis was banned for use in the 1940′s and early 50′s. When he was called to the American Medical Association for disciplinary hearing because of his use of hypnosis, he was able to emply these techniques on the doctors of the AMA and instead of taking away his license, the charges were dropped and the next year the AMA dropped the ban on hypnosis allowing it to be used by any doctor who wanted to!

Conversational hypnosis is not something that should be used to take advantage of people and, in fact, it cannot since your subconscious mind will never let you be harmed or allow you to do something against your will. You can use it effectively to get what you want – a sale of a product, getting your spouse to agree with you, even getting your boss or coworkers to implement your ideas.
